Notice of Intent to Award a Sole Source Contract for a Torque Motor Notice ID: NIST-SS26-162 Contract Opportunity Type: Notice of Intent to Sole Source for a Torque Motor Response Date: August 17,2026 Product Service Code (PSC): 6640 NAICS Code: 334516 BACKGROUND The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research to identify alternative sources that (a) are capable of meeting NIST�s minimum requirements for the following commercial products and (b) would be interested in competing for that requirement: The National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), Fundamental Electrical Metrology Group, requires the purchase of TWO sets of 90 degree coil arcs and ONE set of matching permanent magnet rings to build a tabletop third generation Electronic NIST Torque Realizer (ENTR3). This motor (combination of the coil arcs and magnet rings) will serve as the main actuator for precisely generating torques ranging from [0.01 � 340] N-m for calibrating industrial torque transducers and torque tools traceable to the quantum SI. NIST has not yet determined its acquisition strategy for this requirement and encourages interested sources to respond to this Notice. If NIST�s market research indicates there are alternative sources that are capable and interested in competing to fill this requirement, separate and apart from Akribis Systems then NIST will consider conducting a competitive acquisition in accordance with law and regulation. To be clear, NIST�s identification of Akribis Systems in this Notice does not constitute a binding commitment or obligation for it to conduct a sole source procurement with Akribis Systemsfor this requirement.
